The name of the organisation is Potter’s House Multipurpose Centre, herein after referred to as the project.

To minister to communities both in social and spiritual needs.

6.  Background
Potter’s House Multi-purpose Centre was established in 2004 for the purpose of addressing the socio-economic needs of communities around the Potter’s House Family Church, that is, vulnerable communities around Newcastle Local Municipality. The organisation was then formally registered with the department of Social Development on 6th January 2005.

7.  Aims and objectives
Alleviate poverty in families in and around the centre, that is, Newcastle Local Municipality.
  1. Create sustainable livelihoods for the communities served by the Centre (Sustainable Food gardens, small business projects, etc.) and reduce dependence on hand outs.
  2. Provide spiritual, social support and counselling to abused and vulnerable people especially Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC).
  3. Establish an integrated centre (physical facility) for social and recreational purposes for the surrounding communities.
  4. Provision of support and counselling to HIV/AIDS infected and affected individuals.
  5. Provide support and care for senior citizens.

8.  Core-Business of the organisation

Provide support, spiritual care and counselling through the following services:

 ·         Soup kitchen, uniform distribution and parental guidance for OVC’s.
·         Luncheon club and physical exercise for Senior Citizens.
·         Food parcels for needy families
·         Counselling, support with school work and temporary attachment of children to families within the church.
·         Establishment of income generating projects; e.g. brick-laying, egg production, food gardens, sewing, etc. Identification of market for produce.
·         Vocational guidance for youth from affected communities.
·         HIV/AIDS counselling for affected and infected individuals.

9.  Achievements & Assets (2004 to date)

The project is currently using the church premises at Madadeni for child learning support, feeding and counselling. The facility is not adequate for this function.

The project owns a 3.5ha site at KwaMathukuza Area, ± 12 KM outside Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal.

GPS Co-ordinates: (30º0’24.239’’E; 27º46’5.249’’S).

Infrastructural project completed: 10 000-seater Auditorium with an ancillary hall and offices. Construction of Auditorium was financed through generous contributions by members of the church.

The projects currently supports 5 child headed families around KwaMathukuza and 1070 needy families with food parcels as a temporally poverty relief intervention. We also provide Senior citizens with food parcels, cooked food from the church’s kitchen and help them with physical exercise to keep them fit and healthy.

Currently there are small-scale skills development programmes that train women on vegetable production, sewing and baking. The aim is to broaden this intervention with proper assistance from the SETA’s. 

The project supports Child-headed families with school uniform supplies, food and educational support (assisting learners with homework exercises and related activities).

10.      Current funding mechanism and financial management

The current programmes are funded mainly by the church (Potter’s House Family Church) and partly by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development. The project has externally audited financials from an independent auditing firm and internal audit mechanisms are in place.

There is an appointed Financial Officer accounting to the Board.

12. Proposed Projects
A. Construction of a multi-purpose community care centre with the following facilities:
1.    Primary Health Care Centre (with HIV/AIDS diagnosis, treatment, counselling and after-care and support).
2.    Children’s Programme (community child care facility, orphanage & Soup-kitchen, child-learning support programme and support to Child-headed families). 
3.    Senior citizens luncheon club facility & Care Centre.
4.    Youth centre (Rehab centre).
5.    Potter’s House Sports Centre (Gymnasium & Playgrounds).
6.    Potter’s House Resource Centre (Computer Centre, Library and Study Centre)
7.    Potter’s House Academy building.

B. Establishment of a Skills Training Centre
The following skills to be provided:

  1. Basic farming skills.
  2. Technical skills (like arch welding, brick-laying, etc.)
  3. Sewing skills and hand work.
  4. Adult literacy programmes including Adult and Youth Education and Training (AYET).
  5. Business Management skills.
C. Funding for Multi-purpose staff and Academy educators

1.      Stipends are required for the Project Manager, child minders, care givers and general workers (driver, cleaners and admin. officer) in the project.

D. Construction of pedestrian bridge
- For safety of our clients.

PROFILE FOR THE BRANCH OF BLAAUWBOSCH

HOW IT STARTED?

Blaauwbosch Branch was started in early 2012 after a need arose due to a very high number saints residing in that area of Newcastle.

It started as a Cell Group which was part of Osizweni Area under the leadership of Sister Moudy Mukwambo. Sister Moudy played a pivotal role in ensuring that the Cell multiplies itself into many Cell-Groups and she also gave converts support spiritually, socially and physically as a result the Cell grew into an Area and now the Branch.

The branch is under the leadership of Mr and Mrs Mabaso

SPECIAL EVENTS

On 12 October 2013 the Branch embarked on an evangelism campaign in Ntendeka area to reach out to more areas around Blaauwbosch where a door to door evangelism campaign was conducted and about 40 people were saved and gave their lives to Jesus Christ
ACHIEVEMENTS

On 20 October 2013 a new Cell-Group was launched in Ntendeka area to cater for new converts around that area and about 30 people attend Cell meetings.
Sister Moudy is also assisting with transport to get Ntendeka area saints to the Branch site for Sunday services.

The Branch won the Branch/Area of the year award during the annual Capacity Building Day in 2013 and Sister was recognized as the overall best Area Leader by the church leadership.

 CHILDREN MINISTRY’S MISSION AND VISION
VISION
To develop every child in the church with immediate effect.

MISSION
To be a ministry in which very children be able to function effectively in the building up of the Kingdom of God.

UP COMING ACTIVITIES
MAY
On the 25th the children are going to honour their special service in the church. Children are going to participate in different activities like praise and worship, rendering items and give memory verses and drama.

SEPTEMBER
On the 7th there will be a special service where children are supposed to participate in a variety of activities.
The market day on the 14th will be held at Theku Mall where children will reach out and evangelize to their peers.

NOVEMBER
Children Ministry committee is going to discuss exam papers and be moderated by lady Bishop. The children will write their exam marked scripts will be issued back to the children.

DECEMBER
The children ministry’s closing function/service will be on the 5th and they will receive snack packs.
